But the new “high-performance” headlights don’t just offer advantages. On the one hand, they provide better illumination of the road and thereby improve driving safety in the dark. On the other hand, the bright light also carries risks because it dazzles oncoming traffic too much.

Most cars still drive through the night with nasty halogen lights. But anyone has ever broken through the darkness with an LED light knows that the small LEDs shine much brighter and wider. The better lighting technology is not only evident in the luminaires themselves, but also systems such as the glare-free high beam, which is the most significant advance in recent years, ensure greater safety and comfort.
The matrix headlight ensures the best illumination
A matrix light is a type of the LED main headlight which has many individually controllable light-emitting diodes. In current systems, there are between 25 and 100 pieces that ensure optimal illumination of the street. Even cornering lights and glare-free high beams can generate. The development of this technology is just beginning: In the future, engineers will think of up to a thousand LEDs per headlight.
Laser light particularly interesting for car designers
In laser technology, the light itself also comes from a semiconductor – however, these are laser diodes. The bundled light radiated onto a so-called converter, which then throws a broader and bright light onto the street. Without this converter, the laser would only create a small spot on the road.
Nevertheless, normal headlights are installed in vehicles with this technology because the laser light is only responsible for a very wide high beam. However, this technology could become interesting because of only extremely small outlet areas required on the card front. In the future, car designers could design completely new vehicle fronts with very narrow headlights.
You can say: The cooler the LED operated, the longer its lifespan and the higher its light output. The ambient temperature is also decisive: the warmer it is, the more important it is to dissipate heat in the luminaire efficiently.
Reputable manufacturers note the permissible ambient temperature on their products. Luminous fluxes and lifetimes of your LEDs can optimally exploit.
